The European Broadcasting Union has revealed that Eurovision Choir 2023 is one of six co-productions planned for next year.
The EBU has announced that Latvia Television (LTV) is pitching for member broadcasters to collaborate on the 2023 edition of Eurovision Choir. Eurovision Choir was held every other year between 2017 and 2019, before the contest was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Latvian Television first proposed Eurovision Choir in 2014 and worked for three years on the format before the contest was agreed between the European Broadcasting Union and Interkultur. According to Ieva Rozentāle the Head of Delegation for Latvia and initiator of the contest, Eurovision Choir “bridges the gap between the Eurovision Song Contest which appeals to a vast audience and Eurovision Young Musicians which is focused on a small, elite audience.”
Wales was the only nation to have confirmed its participation in Eurovision Choir 2021 before the contest was canceled due to COVID-19. The following broadcasters have participated in the contest since its first edition in 2017:
- Austria (ORF) – 2017
- Belgium (RTBF) – 2017, 2019
- Denmark (DR) – 2019
- Estonia (ERR) – 2017
- Germany (WDR) – 2017, 2019
