San Marino: Over 1000 Applications Received To Date For Una Voce per San Marino 2023

San Marino RTV has announced that over 1000 applications from 31 countries have been received to date for Una Voce per San Marino 2023.

To date, over 1000 singers from 31 countries have registered to compete in the San Marinese selection for Eurovision 2023. This is an increase of over 300 singers since RTV last gave an update on the number of applications late last year in 2022.

The applications have so far come from the following countries: Italy, San Marino, Poland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Serbia, Russia, United Kingdom, United States, Finland, Malta, Australia, Switzerland, Belarus, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Mexico, Norway, Greece, Ukraine, Ireland, Israel, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Latvia, Albania, Sweden.

Unlike before, there is no detailed breakdown of the nationality of the applicants has been provided. Within the first 402  submissions, over 80% of the applications are from Italy, with 334 artists having applied, 16 are from Spain, 8 from Germany and 5 from Norway. In contrast, just 3 singers from San Marino have applied to date.

The application deadline to participate in the selection has been moved to January 27, 2023. The registration period has also been extended from January 15, 2023, to February 13, 2023.

The next casting phases will occur from January 20 to 21 and 23 to 29 at the Multipurpose Hall in San Marino.

Five semi-finals will be held between 18-20 February 2023. The Semi-Finals will be broadcast on delay by SMRTV. The Grand Final will be held on February 25, 2023 in the Teatro Nuovo in Dogana. The winner will be chosen by a five-person jury, two jurors chosen by San Marino RTV, one chosen by Segreteria di Stato and two chosen by the production company.

How will Una voce per San Marino 2023 work?

The Academy and Casting stage will be held between October 28, 2022 and January 27, 2023. At the Casting stage, a jury will select 60 or more artists to progress to the next round of the San Marinese selection

Following the casting stage, a total of five Semi-Finals will be held in February 2023. From the five Semi-Finals, around twenty artists will be chosen by the jury to go through to the Grand Final. There will be four Semi-Final shows, of which one will be for artists from San Marino, the fifth show in the Semi-Final stage will be the second chance round.

The Grand Final will be held on February 25, 2023 in the Teatro Nuovo in Dogana. The winner will be chosen by a five-person jury, two jurors chosen by San Marino RTV, one chosen by Segreteria di Stato and two chosen by the production company.

Unlike last year, there will be no Established Artist section and no artists will be directly invited to the final. Instead established artists or any other artists of note may be directly invited to the Semi-Finals and skip the Casting round.

Applications to take part in the selection are open until January 20, 2023. There are fees associated with taking part:

  • Applications before September 29 will cost 100 Euro
  • Applications between October 1 and January 20 will cost 150 Euro
  • Applications from San Marinese artists will cost 50 Euro before December 3
