It has been announced by TVR, the Romanian broadcaster, that 85 songs have been submitted for the 2023 edition of their national Selection, Selecţia Naţională. This is slightly down on last year, where 94 songs were received.

A mix of artists from Romania and abroad are said to have entered songs. These songs will now be listened to between December 14th and December 16th by a jury of experienced professionals. They are:

  • Sebastien Ferenţ (Festival Director)
  • Laura Coroianu (Founder of a concern organisation company)
  • Bogdan Stratula (Radio/TV Director)
  • John Varbiu (Festival Founder)
  • Alin Vaida (Festival Director)
  • Mihai Predescu (Head of Delegation)
  • Unannounced (Project Director)

The decision from this jury will be made on the 17th December, with the final list of participants being announced on the 19th December.

TVR have also previously announced that the 2023 edition of their national selection will take a different format to previous years, after some controversy in their 2022 edition.

Selecţia Naţională will take place on the 11th February in the TVR studios. The result will be decided through a 100% public vote, both online and by televote.

WRS represented Romania with “Llámame” finishing in 18th place with a total of 65 points, he received 10 points from the televote in Moldova and Spain. Romania qualified for the Grand Final for the first time since the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine.
