Italy: Mahmood and Blanco Will Open Festival di Sanremo 2023

The presenter and artistic director of the Sanremo Festival 2023, Amadeus has announced that Mahmood and Blanco who represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will open the first evening of Festival di Sanremo.

Last year, the reigning champions of Eurovision, Måneskin also opened the song festival metaphorically passing the baton to this year’s competing singers.

Mahmood and Blanco finished sixth in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with their song “Brividi”, scoring 268 points on home ground.

Festival di Sanremo 2023 will be held from February 7 to 11. The contest will again feature 25 artists of which three will qualify for the contest through Sanremo Giovani. All 25 artists will be competing with songs that are not released until the night of the performances.

The fourth evening of the show will be dedicated to covers of Italian or international songs released between January 1, 1960 and December 31, 1999. The way in which the winner of the Festival di Sanremo 2023 is chosen remains the same as in recent years. The winner of the Festival di Sanremo 2023 will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
